This Exhibition dives deep into the story and explore the world's largest and one of the most mysterious animals, the blue whale.
You will see a complete skeleton of one of the world's largest animals... the blue whale. Discover how they evolved, what their heart size is, their ability to communicate, and more mind-blowing biology about why these giants are Earth's largest animals.
Out of the Depths: The Blue Whale Story Exhibition retells the story of nine blue whales that died tragically in the Gulf of St. Lawrence in 2014, and the unprecedented opportunity for research and conservation that has resulted.
FUN HANDS-ON WHALE ACTIVITIES
- daily program schedules varies -
Be a Whale Scientist
How would you conduct research on a 24 m long animal swimming 100 meters below the ocean’s surface? Imagine collecting whale feces, snot, and parasites! Learn what whale scientists do and how they collect their (often gross) samples as you practice spotting parasites and identifying tail flukes.
Insulation
How effective is a whale’s blubber at keeping them warm? Experiment to find out whether blubber or synthetic materials are better insulators.
“What’s It?” Discovery Station
You will explore a variety of touchable specimens and replicas up close to gain a deeper understanding of the surprising lives of blue whales.
Scavenger Hunt
Younger guests will be on the lookout to find all the special spots in the exhibition where they can sing like a whale, touch baleen, and find out if they fit in a whale’s mouth.
