Your Bannock Fest ticket includes one bite-sized piece of bannock from each contestant listed below.

All proceeds from tickets and add-ons will support Indigenous people's access to TELUS World of Science - Edmonton.

Experiences

Bannock Competition

Contestants will bring their bannock to be judged in three different categories:

- Judge's Choice (celebrity judges)

- People's Choice (guests to purchase a ballot to vote)

- Kid's Choice (three chosen junior judges)

Aunty Bingo

Enjoy an interactive game of Aunty Bingo and win prizes! Donations appreciated.

The Science Garage

6:00 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 7:00 p.m.

Arctic Games

Try Arctic Games such as Leg Fight, Knuckle Hop, and Muskox Fight, hands on challenges inspired by Inuit traditions. Test strength, balance, and focus through friendly, low impact competition.

Arctic Journey

5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Teachings of the Medicine Wheel

Spin the Medicine Wheel to reveal one aspect of wellness, then follow a guided activity that helps you reflect on and connect with that part of yourself.

Health Zone

5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream

Enjoy some delicious Saskatoon berry liquid nitrogen ice cream made right before your eyes.

Syncrude Science Stage

6:00 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 7:00 p.m.

Beef Stew

For an additional cost, enjoy comforting stew featuring chunks of beef with potato and veggies in a thick sauce.

Galaxy Gift Shop

The Galaxy Gift Shop, located in the lobby, will be open during the event to purchase science-inspired products and Indigenous featured items from JACEK Chocolate Couture in Sherwood Park, Crystal Driedger Studios in Sherwood Park, and more.

Bannock Contestants

Christine Agligoetok

Christine, an Inuit from Bay Chimo, Nunavut, learned the secrets of her beloved fried bannock from the grandparents who raised her.

Lance Cardinal

Lance is a First Nations, 2-Spirit artist, designer, and television personality from the Bigstone Cree Nation in treaty 8 territory. He has quickly become one of Alberta’s leading First Nation artists and entrepreneurs.

James Hansen

Born and raised in Edmonton, James brings 35 years of culinary experience to his role as Executive Chef and Food & Beverage Manager at the Edmonton Inn and Conference Centre, driven by a passion for learning, teaching, and taking on new challenges.

Carol Ovayuak

Carol is Inuvialuit from Tuktoyaktuk born and raised on the land. She learned to sew, prepare traditional food, fish and hunt geese, caribou and whale. She learned from Shamans how to help Elders and to always listen with respect and compassion.

Ginger Auger

Ginger Auger is a Métis/Cree iskwew and CEO Founder of Ginger’s Bannock House, located in Fort McMurray. Ginger learned to cook from scratch with her mother at six years old, and the business she founded during her own experience with homelessness and addiction now creates meaningful opportunities for Indigenous people on paths toward healing and independence.

Event MC

Veronica McRae

Veronica is a proud Cree-Métis woman who discovered her love of cooking as a young single mother. She brings people together through food while honouring her roots and the strength of her ancestors. Veronica competed on MasterChef Canada, using her platform to champion food security and Indigenous representation.

Celebrity Judges

Taylor McPherson and Katie Mulkay

Taylor and Katie are a small but mighty duo who met on the University of Alberta wrestling team, building a strong friendship on and off the mat. They channel their shared strength and passion for sport into inspiring others to overcome challenges—an unstoppable mindset that led them to win Season 10 of The Amazing Race Canada.

Taylor is an Indigenous Sports Program Coordinator in Alberta and a proud member of the Miawpukek First Nation in Newfoundland. She champions education, health, cultural preservation, and self-empowerment by inspiring women, youth, and families to connect through sport and land-based learning.

A passionate physical education educator and volunteer, Katie empowers youth through contact sports like wrestling, rugby, and football, living fully while sharing her love of sport and community.

Priscilla Littlechild

Priscilla is an Elder, a member of Ermineskin Cree Nation, and a survivor of the 60's scoop and residential schools.  As owner of Harvesting Mother Earth, she creates medicinal teas from medicines foraged on her late sisters land in Maskwacis. Priscilla strongly believes if you are good to the land, it will be good to you!

Daintre Christensen

Daintre is the traffic anchor and co-host of Global News Morning, guiding Edmonton drivers through the morning commute since 2008. She actively supports the community by volunteering with donation drives and emceeing events for organizations.

Daintre is a member of Ontario’s Nipissing First Nation, an Ojibwe, and Algonquin community whose ancestors have lived on and around Lake Nipissing for more than 9,000 years.  

She is always honoured to share her experiences as an Indigenous woman and was especially proud of her contribution for the Global News Special “Journey Towards Reconciliation.”
