  • This August, look up with TELUS World of Science – Edmonton and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada at a free, all-ages lunar eclipse viewing event at the RASC Observatory.

On August 27, watch the Moon put on a show as RASC volunteers guide you through the eclipse, share the science behind what’s happening overhead and offer closer looks through telescopes.

No special eclipse glasses required for this one, just your eyes, a little curiosity and, ideally, a clear sky.

This event is weather dependent. Hours may change or viewing may be cancelled due to cloud cover or unsafe weather conditions, so please check this page or our social media channels for the latest updates before heading out.

Please note that TELUS World of Science – Edmonton remains temporarily closed. While the RASC Observatory will be open for this event, there will be no access to the Science Centre, including washroom facilities.

Deep Partial Lunar Eclipse

Thursday, August 27 | 9:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.

Watch Earth’s shadow move across the Moon during a deep partial lunar eclipse through one of our observatory telescopes, and learn more about the Moon, eclipses and the night sky from RASC volunteers. While the partial eclipse begins shortly after moonrise, the Moon is expected to become visible locally at approximately 9:15 p.m. The eclipse will reach its maximum at 10:12 p.m. and end around 11:51 p.m.
