  • Sharing Science: Improving Science Literacy is a 3-hour, highly interactive course, part of the Making Science Matter suite of science communication courses offered by the Science Centre. Participants strengthen their own science literacy while learning to share complex scientific topics clearly, accurately, and with confidence. The course emphasizes presenting information in a balanced and approachable way and exploring the nuances of sharing diverse perspectives within science.

    Through guided discussions, hands-on activities, and research-informed best practices, participants learn to identify and share credible sources, communicate with clarity and precision, and support others in developing their science literacy and decision-making skills. By the end of the course, participants will have a renewed appreciation for how to share science thoughtfully, inclusively, and accurately.

This Course Is For

Suitable for organizations who are supporting students, clients, patients, or staff to make informed decisions. Ideal for educators, health professionals, and members of science-based boards or foundations.

Participants Will Learn

Participants will learn how to adapt their messaging based on four key principles so that their communications encourages critical thinking, fact-checking, and evaluating information in an increasingly noisy world.

Course Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will:

- confidently coach others to identify credible sources,

- identify easy and actionable steps to improve their existing communications, and

- comfortably cite sources in both formal and informal communications.
