We are delighted to announce the three recipients of the 2026 Inspiring Educator Award, recognizing outstanding Northern Alberta educators who go above and beyond to bring science to life in their classrooms and inspire a passion for discovery in their students.
Winners
Dr. Michael Ng
Chemistry Teacher, Paul Kane High School, St. Albert
Dr. Michael Ng has dedicated his career to 'Making Science Fun,' creating engaging and relatable ways for students to explore chemistry. He plans to use the award funding to introduce robotics and more hands-on learning opportunities, helping students connect science concepts with real-world applications.
Jesus Tabilin
STEAM Teacher Specialist, Mihtatakaw Sipiy School, Driftpile Cree Nation
Jesus Tabilin creates hands-on STEAM experiences that connect classroom learning with real-world applications while honouring the culture and community of Cree Nation students. He plans to use the award funding to expand the school’s Science, Coding and Agriculture Lab, including hydroponics, greenhouse learning and agri-technology.
Nicholas Riemann
Grade 8 and 9 Science Teacher, A. Blair McPherson School, Edmonton
Nicholas Riemann uses hands-on, inquiry-based learning to encourage students to ask questions, explore ideas and make meaningful connections to the world around them. He plans to use the award funding to connect students with scientists and other experts, inspiring student-led projects, collaboration and a deeper passion for science.
Award Recognition
Each recipient will receive:
- A $1,000 award to support an engaging science activity, purchase classroom supplies, or fund other educational activities.
- One field trip to TELUS World of Science – Edmonton or virtual program for their class.
- Recognized at the Edmonton Space & Science Foundation’s Annual General Meeting and in its newsletters.
