1. Who can participate in sleepovers?
School classes or community groups (Brownies, Scouts, Guide, etc) can participate. Participants need to be at least 7 years old to participate. Adult chaperones must be at least 18 years old.
2. Do we need to wear masks?
At this time guests are encouraged, but not required to wear masks while at the science centre.
3. How many participants can be at a sleepover?
We have a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 85 per sleepover night. If you have less than 20, you can still book a sleepover but will be charged the cost of a minimum of 20 participants. More than one group can book into one sleepover night with a maximum of 2 groups or 85 participants.
4. How many chaperones do we need?
We require a ratio of 1 adult chaperone for every 7 students. An adult chaperone must be aged 18 or older.
5. Will we be the only ones at the sleepover?
There may be other sleepover groups booked on the same night. There is no guarantee that your group will be the only ones at the science centre on a sleepover night. In addition to other sleepover groups, there may also be other events in the science centre in the evening.
When more than one group is present at a Science Sleepover, the sleepover groups may be together for their Safety Chat, snack and mealtimes, Zeidler Dome, and IMAX shows.
Our galleries are very large and more than one sleepover group may be sleeping in the same gallery, however, there will be designated areas between exhibits to allow privacy and separation between the two groups. The age of participants will also factor in where they sleep. For example, if a group of Grade 3-6 participants are booked on the same evening as a group of Grade 7-9 participants, they will not sleep in the same gallery.
Groups will be separated for interpretive programming, and each group will have its own Science Educator assigned to their group.
6. Can we eat at the science centre?
If you have upgraded your experience to include the Dinner Package, then you will be served your meal when you arrive for your sleepover. If you do not want the Dinner Package, we encourage groups to eat dinner before they arrive. All groups will be served a late-night snack of fruit, yogurt, granola bars, water, or juice and breakfast in the morning.
Groups may not bring their own food or have food delivered to the science centre.
7. What about allergies or special diets?
Any dietary concerns must be indicated at the time of registration. With advance notice, we will do our best to accommodate food allergies and dietary needs.
8. Can I bring my phone or tablet to the Science Sleepover?
You are welcome to bring mobile devices or tablets, but please keep in mind that TELUS World of Science – Edmonton does not have a secure place to lock these items overnight. We are not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged items brought to the Science Sleepover.
9. What is the booking and cancellation policy
Science Sleepovers must be booked a minimum of six weeks in advance of the chosen date. A non-refundable deposit of $500 is required within 7 days of booking. Final payment is due 2 weeks before the booked date. No refunds for changes or absences after final payment has been made. Science Sleepovers cancelled by TELUS World of Science – Edmonton will be refunded in full if an alternate date cannot be found within the 2024-2025 school year.
