The mobile planetarium requires a large space for the dome and fan (minimum 9m x 9m with at least 4m of vertical clearance). Most schools use the gym or large common area.
The inflated mobile planetarium offers an immersive and exciting experience to appreciate and understand our relationship with the sky. These programs require a large space to set up the inflatable planetarium dome (9m x 9m with at least 4m of vertical clearance), where a class can receive one of many out-of-this-world viewing experiences.
For Grades 2-12, two types of Mobile Planetarium Programs are offered:
Movie Shows: These shows are professional dome-formatted movies that typically run for 20-30 minutes and will be enhanced with a short 10-minute live sky show highlighting interesting features of the night sky.
Live Sky Shows: Instructional staff will take your class on a 45-minute guided tour to explore the sky, the solar system, the stars and constellations, and more. For grades 1-6, the shows are tailored to the new elementary Alberta curriculum.
Booking Notes:
- Mobile Planetarium Programs must be booked for at least half a day (i.e., at least two shows).
- The mobile planetarium requires a large space for the dome and fan (minimum 9m x 9m with at least 4m of vertical clearance). Most schools use the gym or large common area.
- The Mobile Planetarium programs may be of concern to students with a fear of dark or confined spaces. While our programs are designed not to include flashing or strobing lights, there is a small chance of them occurring during the program.
- We do not recommend Kindergarten classes due to the dark, the noise, and the 45-minute sitting in a confined space.
