Camps FAQ

What camp age group should I register my child in?

For summer camps, please register your child into the camp that coincides with the grade they are going into in the fall. For example, if your child has finished Kindergarten, and is going into Grade 1 in the fall, they can be registered into Grade 1-2 camps.

For camps held during the school year (PD Day, Spring Break) please register campers into the camp that coincides with the grade they are currently in. For example, if your child is in Grade 3 then they should register in a Grade 3-4 camp for a PD Day in November.

ONLY people you have authorized for pick up may pick up your campers. When you register, you will be prompted to fill out an Authorized Pick-Up List with names of the people you have authorized to pick up your child.

At pick up, adults picking up campers will have to show identification so that camp staff can ensure they are on the Authorized Pick-Up List for those campers. If they are not on the list, camp staff will have to contact camp families to confirm this person can pick up the camper.

If you need to add or remove people from the pick-up list, please email or talk to the Camp Instructor.

What happens if my child is sick?

We ask that any children displaying cold or flulike symptoms stay home from camp. Any campers who begin to display these symptoms while at camp will be isolated from other campers and their families will be contacted to pick them up from camp as soon as possible

My child has special needs, can they come to camp?

Science is for everyone, and we try to make our camps as inclusive as possible. Our well-trained and empathetic camp staff will adjust programming and make accommodations for campers who need them.

If your child’s camp experience would benefit from some program changes or adjustments, please reach out to the camp team prior to your child arriving at camp. You can reach out to Michelle, Manager, Camps & Community Programs via email at mweinhandl@twose.ca.

We also encourage all families to fill out an online form where you can outline any behaviors or special needs that the camp staff should be aware of. A link to this form will be in the camp welcome email sent to camp families 5-7 days prior to the start of camp.

What should campers bring to camp?

Campers should be prepared for camp with the proper gear. Please ensure that all gear is clearly labeled with the campers’ name. Campers should bring:

  • A nut free lunch that does not need heating and two snacks.
  • Water bottle
  • Comfortable shoes
  • Camps often go outside, so please be prepared for the weather at the time with proper outdoor gear. If campers don’t want to wear boots all day, a change of shoes is recommended.
  • A backpack to hold all the above

We recommend that campers do not bring electronic devices or money to camps. Camps do not visit the Galaxy Gift shop or the Purple Pear Restaurant during camp time, nor do we offer time for campers to play on their electronic devices. TELUS World of Science – Edmonton is not responsible for lost, broken, or stolen items.

What happens if my child forgets or loses belongings?

At the end of camps, any gear left behind will be taken to the Box Office and put in the lost and found. Items are stored in lost and found for one week. After one week, any items not claimed will be donated. If your child has left something behind, please check with Box Office staff to see if the item(s) is in the lost and found.
